BBBS launches recruitment push during mentoring month
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Jan. 7, 2026) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio is celebrating the positive impact mentors—known as “Bigs”—are having on local children as part of National Mentoring Month.
Spokesperson Olivia Scally says the month-long observance highlights the heart of the organization’s mission: mentoring.
Right now, the agency is emphasizing two themes: “88 Kids. Waiting. Hoping.” and “88 Reasons to Be a Big,” representing the average number of children on its waiting list for a mentor.
Scally says prospective mentors can visit Bigs4Kids.com to learn more about individual children and find the best match.
She adds that the ideal mentors are dependable, supportive, and willing to help kids reach their full potential.
Scally says the organization is marking National Mentoring Month in several ways, including posting video profiles of its mentors on social media.
International Mentoring Day is January 17th, and “Thank Your Mentor Day” falls on January 28th.
