BCC staff’s caring keeps going beyond classroom
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 25, 2024) – Buckeye Career Center is continuing a tradition of supporting its own youth in the agricultural community and local charities at the same time.
BCC for the 14th year in a row purchased a hog at last month’s county fair, this time belonging to construction student Madison Cottrell.
Spokesperson Shyanne Carroll says staff members raised nearly $1,600 to purchase the hog; no tax dollars were used.
Carroll says students in Buckeye’s Meat-Cutting, Deli, & Bakery program processed the meat, which was donated to the Dover – New Philadelphia Food Pantry and recently distributed.
Staff had $212 left after purchasing the hog and donated that to the Buckeye Foundation’s Shannon Wigfield Memorial Scholarship, in honor of the longtime BCC instructor who died in the Tusky Valley Charter Bus tragedy last November.
