Biddy Race to recruit young runners to Buckeye Career Center
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Sept. 5, 2024) – The area’s youngest runners are getting an opportunity to compete and at the same time get an introduction to Buckeye Career Center from an early age.
The school’s annual free Buckeye Biddy Race is this afternoon with event registration beginning at 4:15 p.m. There are four cross country races in all for the different age categories. Public Relations Coordinator Shyanne Carroll says energy operations students designed the scenic course that takes participants onto parts of the career center campus they normally wouldn’t see.
She says it is also an outreach event to draw elementary-age students to the campus.
“That way when we start going into the classroom as they get older, they’re already familiar with Buckeye Career Center. They’ve at last been there, they’ve seen our building, maybe they understand our logo,’” she said.
Carroll says the runners will also get to observe some of the Buckeye Career Center students in action through displays in the Joe Carlisle Café parking lot.
“We’ll have our students there doing some hands-on activities to demonstrate their labs and show the students kind of what they’re doing in class — some fun activities,” she said.
Carroll says they typically get about 300 kids to run.
The event will have a DJ and free inflatables beginning at 5 p.m. today. Participants also get refreshments at the finish line.
