Body found on Towpath bridge in Zoar, suicide suspected
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 16, 2023) – Tuscarawas County’s sheriff says his office is investigating the discovery of a man’s body along the Towpath Trail in Zoar Tuesday as a suicide.
Orvis Campbell says a female on the Towpath called 911 just after 4 p.m. reporting that she could see a body on the Iron Bridge and possibly blood.
Campbell says detectives arrived and found a gun alongside the man, who had lived close nearby.
He says signs, including a note that was left behind, indicate the apparent shooting death was self-inflicted, so there’s no threat to the public.
Campbell says the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office also responded Tuesday and family members were notified.
