NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 17, 2022) – The suspect in the shooting death of a Belmont County man whose body authorities found in the backseat of his car made his initial court appearance this afternoon.

36-year-old Dalbert “Dale” Sanders of Uhrichsville is charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, and using a firearm while intoxicated for the fatal shooting of 37-year-old John Q Bashline of Powhatan Point. Southern District Court Judge Brad Hillyer set his bond at $110,000 after letting Sanders know the penalties each of the charges carry.

“Count 1, involuntary manslaughter, a felony of the third degree… 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54 or 60 months in a state penal institution plus a potential three-year term for the use of a firearm.”

Sanders is also charged with gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence, as are Michael Reynolds and his nephew Dominic Reynolds, whom the judge released from the county jail on their own recognizance.

“You will be in your residence by 8 pm and nowhere else. You’re not permitted to consume alcohol or any illegal drugs at any time. You’re not permitted in a bar, tavern, or any place that serves alcohol.”

The three men are accused of placing Bashline’s body in his car and leaving it along McKee Road in Dennison early Sunday morning. They claim his death was accidental and the result of heavy drinking and mishandling firearms during a birthday party. A preliminary hearing in the case will take place next Wednesday.
