Bond set at $250k for man accusing of shooting at wife

| August 8, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 8, 2024) – The Uhrichsville man accused of firing a gun at his wife Monday night remains in jail ahead of his preliminary hearing.

81-year-old John D. Valentine appeared in Tuscarawas County Southern District Court Tuesday and his bond set at $250,000.

The wife reported Valentine firing four shots, two of them passing within inches of her head. Police say he refused to comply with their commands initially but surrendered about 45 minutes later after speaking over the phone with a crisis negotiator from the highway patrol.

The preliminary charges against Valentine include felonious assault and attempted murder. He’s due back in court Tuesday for a hearing to decide whether the case will be bound over to Common Pleas Court for further proceedings.
