Canton woman dies in Wayne Township single-vehicle crash
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (August 6, 2024) – A 22-year-old Canton woman died in a one-vehicle crash in Wayne Township early Tuesday morning.
The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports Kindra Owens was pronounced dead at the scene on County Road 98 just south of Township Road 1096 just after 4:30 a.m. She was driving a 2019 Honda Civic that went off the side of the road, partially struck a fire hydrant and then a tree, according to a press release
Sgt. William Bower says the crash is under investigation, but drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. He says the driver was not using a seatbelt.
“If she would’ve had her seatbelt on, it would have significantly reduced her injuries,” he said.
Wayne Township Fire Department and Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office assisted the State Highway Patrol at the scene.
