Charities seek ‘Giving Tuesday’ donations
TUSCARAWAS CO. (WJER) (Dec. 3, 2024) – It is Giving Tuesday, a global day of awareness that falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to support non-profits in your community.
One place to donate is at the Habitat for Humanity of East Central Ohio website.
Spokesman Kevin Miller says they have a goal right now to build 25 homes with 25 families in 2025.
“Through our Giving Tuesday campaigns over the years, we’ve built multiple houses because people have given,” said Miller.
Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County Board President Joe Svancara says they now have a campaign asking donors to “adopt a family” at the homeless shelter, which costs about $60 a night.
“For sixty dollars a night, it certainly helps out because it makes sure that a family of about three to four is going to be able to get meals, is going to be able to get a safe place – a warm place – to sleep for a night. It ensures that children are able to remain in the school district and actually go to school on a regular basis,” Svancara said.
Others that have made social media posts asking for consideration today include the Blessings in a Backpack program and the Tuscarawas County YMCA.
