City looking to crack down on reckless scooter riders

| April 28, 2025

DOVER – The city safety director wants to crack down on electric scooters riders who don’t obey traffic laws.

Bob Everett says the city has gotten an influx of complaints about the motorized two-wheelers.

“The problem is we have young teens operating these, some of whom are not following any traffic laws, they’re riding without helmets and they’re being very reckless in their operation,” he said.

Everett is forming a committee – with the mayor, police chief and law director – to look into options for reining in reckless riders.

“Frankly, before something tragic happens, we feel the need that we should investigate our options,” he said.

Everett also addressed safety concerns about pedestrians crossing North Wooster Avenue at the 6th Street crosswalk. He says the city bought a crosswalk system with poles and flashing lights to hopefully get motorists to stop and allow pedestrians to cross.
