Clerk injured during attempted gas station robbery
DOVER – (WJER) (Dec. 10, 2024) – Dover Police say a clerk at the Speedway gas station on South Wooster Avenue was injured during an attempted robbery Monday evening.
According to a press release, the female clerk called police to report she had been struck in the head during the incident that happened at about 6 p.m. before the suspect fled on foot. It doesn’t say what she was struck with. The victim was taken to a nearby medical facility, where she was treated and released.
Several police cruisers from area departments and a crime scene investigation truck responded and were at the gas station for at least a couple of hours, blocking off the entire parking lot with crime scene tape.
The press release says Dover Police did quickly detain a person of interest for questioning. No details were immediately given on that individual.
Update: Suspect Jailed
Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell now confirms that 39-year-old John A. McNutt – who was listed as homeless – was booked into the county jail early Tuesday morning on holder charges of robbery and attempted murder in connection to the Speedway incident.
Campbell says the case is being referred to the county prosecutor’s office for formal charges against McNutt, which could take a couple of days.
The gas station was open again on Tuesday.
