Community leaders voice support for State Issue 2 today

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 6, 2025) – Tuscarawas County’s engineer and others have been asking for voters to approve State Issue 2 at the polls today.
Issue 2 would authorize the state to issue $2.5 billion over 10 years for public infrastructure projects, such as road and bridge work. The program is funded with bonds; it won’t raise taxes.
Tuscarawas County Engineer Doug Bachman says the county has had 76 different projects funded through this program in the past 10 years and will get another $3.8 million for five projects this year.
New Philadelphia Mayor Joel Day and Service Director Ron McAbier also urged council members last week to pass a resolution – which they did – in support of Issue 2.
Voters will also be deciding on separate issues today that would fund new facilities in the New Philadelphia and Strasburg school districts.
The polls are open until 7:30 p.m. this evening.
