Conotton Valley High School to host student’s funeral Monday
SHERRODSVILLE (WJER) (February 18, 2022) – Conotton Valley High School will be the site of Monday’s funeral service for the 18-year-old student who died in a car crash Wednesday.
Braylen Matthew Novak was a senior at Conotton Valley and studied at Kent State Tuscarawas, according to the obituary provided by R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home. He was a member of the football, basketball and baseball teams, the National Honor Society, and the Drama Club.
“Braylen will be remembered as a positive leader among his peers in his community who was never without his upbeat smile,” reads the obituary.
The funeral service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Conotton Valley High School. Novak’s family will receive callers there starting at 11 a.m.
Carroll County Sheriff Dale Williams says Novak was driving with one passenger, Conotton Valley senior Garson Imes, heading back to the high school on Cumberland Road.
“It was a single car accident,” Williams said. “(It was) southbound on Cumberland Road, which is 212. (The car) went off the right side of the roadway, came back across the road sideways and went off the left side of the road and struck a telephone box and some trees.”
Williams says speed was a factor on the crash. Investigators are trying to determine if Novak was wearing a seatbelt.
Williams says Imes was not wearing a seatbelt. He was injured in the crash. Social media posts from family members say Imes had surgery and was in critical but stable condition.
