County health department sharing resources for pet emergencies

| June 14, 2023

DOVER (WJER) (June 14, 2023) – The Tuscarawas County Health Department is recognizing Pet Emergency Preparedness Month in June through advice and giveaways.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Demuth says they encourage owners to have a pet disaster kit ready for power outages or having to shelter in place a few days.

She says those should include adequate supplies of food, water, and medication, as well as copies of vet records and recent photos of each pet.

Demuth says the kits can also have a leash, collar, toys, and information about first aid for pets.

As part of this, the health department has a drive-thru event where they’ll be distributing free pet emergency bags to the first 400 people who come through its parking lot on East Iron Avenue in Dover TODAY from 4-6 p.m.

Demuth says the bags will include items such as an LED emergency clip-on light, pet waste bags in a dispenser, hand sanitizer, and brochures with a checklist.

She says they’ll also be giving out coupons and entries for pet-related prizes during today’s drive-thru event.
