Court updates on pair of assaults from August 2024

PLEA DEAL REACHED
NEW PHILADELPHIA – A 24-year-old New Philadelphia man has pleaded guilty to felonious assault for ramming his pickup truck into his bicycle-riding adversary.
In exchange for Quintin Sarver’s plea, prosecutors dropped a more serious attempted murder charge. Sentencing is scheduled for August 26th.
Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell said back in August 2024 Sarver caused severe injuries to then 42-year-old Dustin Bowe when he struck him with his pickup truck on East High Avenue in Goshen Township.
Campbell said there had been problems between the two, and Sarver accused Bowe of threatening him and stealing from him.
Bowe underwent multiple surgeries for brain trauma and bone fractures and was wheelchair bound following the assault.
ONE OF FOUR ASSAILANTS SENTENCED
One of the assailants in a 4-on-1 attack in New Philadelphia last summer was sentenced this week to 5 to 7 1/2 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of aggravated burglary and felonious assault.
Jared Soltero, 37, of Minerva is the third attacker to be sentenced in the August 2024 incident where four men, after a night of drinking, went to the victim’s house and assaulted him, leaving him with facial fractures and in need of several surgeries. Prosecutors called it a home invasion.
Two of the accused cooperated with authorities, while Soltero and Christopher Beatty of New Philadelphia opted for jury trials. Both were found guilty. Beatty is appealing his 10 to 15 year prison sentence.
One of the defendants who cooperated, Todd Riordan of Massillon, received a 3 to 4 1/2 prison sentence. The other, Henry Wellman, is scheduled to be sentenced July 29.
