Dangerous cold moving in

| January 19, 2026

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Jan. 19, 2026) – The National Weather Service warns that bitterly cold air is settling into the region today, with temperatures expected to plunge this afternoon.

Strong winds will make it feel well below zero, creating hazardous conditions for anyone spending time outdoors.

A Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect from 9 p.m. tonight through noon Tuesday. Officials urge residents to take precautions: limit time outside, dress in warm layers, and don’t forget hats and gloves. Pet owners are also reminded to bring animals indoors during the extreme cold.

For those needing a safe place to escape the cold, local warming centers are open and available. Locations include area libraries, the YMCA, the Salvation Army, and the Convention & Visitors Bureau.
