NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 6, 2025) – Fall is deer mating season, and that means more bucks and does crossing the roadways.

Local law enforcement agencies have been responding to more deer versus vehicle accidents lately, including at least five just Wednesday night in Tuscarawas County.

At least one crash involved minor injuries and some vehicles were left inoperable.

Tiffany Stanley with AAA says drivers should pay more attention around dawn and dusk and slow down if a deer is approaching. She says don’t swerve because you could end up driving into oncoming traffic or striking a tree.

She says following a deer crash, pull off the road – if possible, call police if you are injured, and report it to your insurance company right away.

Deer mating season typically lasts to December.
