Dennison Council approves outdoor drinking area on split vote

| November 24, 2025

DENNISON (WTUZ) (Nov. 24, 2025) – Visitors to downtown Dennison will be allowed to drink alcohol outdoors during certain hours if the state affirms Council’s approval of a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area.

Last week’s vote was 3-to-2 in favor of the DORA, with one council person – a local business owner – abstaining. Now the state will review the proposal for up to 60 days.

In the DORA, establishments can sell alcohol in a specific cup allowing the buyer to walk around the downtown sections of Center Street and Grant Street.

Councilwoman Vickie O’Hara opposed the legislation calling it a glorified open container permit.

Mayor Greg DiDonato says individuals purchasing the cup will only be allowed to walk around the DORA on Thursdays and Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 9 p.m.
