Dover commends John Correll for years of service on City Council
DOVER – Longtime Councilman John Correll got emotional in his return to Council chambers three months after an unsuccessful reelection bid in November.
Council President Justin Perkowski on Monday joined the rest of City Council in commending Correll for his 11 years of service.
“John Correll is hereby recognized for his dedicated and loyal service to the city of Dover in his role as City Council-at-large member. John will be missed by his colleagues for his warm and positive disposition.”
Correll was grateful for the unanimously passed resolution.
“I’m probably the oldest individual in the room,” Correll said. “I don’t think there’s anybody older than I am, so I think I’ve done all I can do for the length of time I’ve been alive. I’d like to thank everybody in the room who worked with me.”
City Council has two more commendations to vote on and present at future meetings for former longtime employees. One is for detective Jason Peters, who recently retired from the police department after 26 years. The other is for former Councilwoman Julie Leggett, who did not run for reelection in November. She also was Clerk of Council for 14 years.
