Dover considering regulations for big trash receptacles
DOVER – City officials are tired of seeing Dumpsters in the streets for extended periods of time, so they’re doing something about it.
City Council is considering permit requirements, fines and other regulations to limit where and how long roll-off containers and Dumpster containers can stay in front of a home.
Councilman John Correll, chair of the planning, zoning and codes committee, says it seems like Dumpsters are remaining in the street too long, so officials came up with some rules.
The proposed rules would require a $10 permit to place one of the containers in the city right-of-way for no longer than 10 days. Dumpsters on private residential properties don’t require a permit, but they also can’t be there longer than 10 days.
Anybody who violates the rule would get a seven-day warning. After that, fines start at $100 and can escalate to $500.
City Council introduced the legislation on Monday and will vote on it at a future meeting.
