NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 9, 2023) – The State Highway Patrol says two people were killed in a motorcycle crash that appears to have happened several hours before it was discovered this morning on state Route 800 in Dover Township.
The motorcycle operator was 42-year-old Cory Herron of Dover. His passenger was 43-year-old Michelle Orr of Dover.
New Philadelphia Post Sgt. Clinton Armstrong says the northbound motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve in the 3500 block of state Route 800 NE and traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail face, and went down an embankment late Sunday night.
“Both the driver and occupant were thrown off the motorcycle,” said Armstrong.
Armstrong says troopers are still trying to determine when family and friends last saw the victims.
“We believe they had left a residence Sunday night, around 9 or 10 o’clock,” he said.
A passerby then came upon the crash scene and reported it around 8:20 a.m. this morning.
Armstrong says no helmets were in use and the crash remains under investigation.
