Dover eyes additional stormwater and sewer work on the north side

| August 20, 2025

DOVER – The city continues to invest big money in stormwater and sewer improvements on the north side of the city, but state and federal funds are footing the bill.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe this week outlined around $2.5 million in planned sewer and stormwater work. City Council on Monday approved buying about 3.9 acres of land from the Schaeffler company to build a large retention pond near state Route 77 on the north side of the city.

Gunnoe said it’s the best option for managing stormwater in the area. Water from the city and the village of Parral will go there.

Gunnoe says state funding will cover the cost – $590,292 for the construction and $23,000 per acre for the land purchase.

Gunnoe says the city also anticipates receiving about $1.8 million in federal funding for a separate project. This one would expand the sewer capacity on the north end of Dover, which is experiencing recent growth in manufacturing, retail and housing.

Dover is also working on the pipes near the Crimson Cove housing development that’s under construction. County Road 80, which is called Ohio Avenue there, will be closed for about three weeks as crews install a water main and widen the road.
