Last night, we were blessed with a beautiful night to kick off our season at home.

The girls didn’t squander the beautiful night and came out quick, hungry, and relentless. They were on a mission to get this season off to a positive start, however you could tell some of the nerves were leading us to be a bit anxious.

We controlled a majority of the first half, continued to create a lot of chances, but struggled to find the back of the net. About halfway into the half we started to settle in and then in the 26th minute, Bridget McCrate (freshman, #8) took two nice touches after a well played through ball from Olivia VanDonge (senior, #16) and beat the keeper with a great shot for our first goal of the season and lone one of the half.

Our halftime speech focused on two things, one was to keep the shutout and to find one more goal which we thought would lead to a couple more. You could see St. Clairsville was getting tired and if we could get one more goal that might put the game away.

The girls came out much like the first half and looked to possess the ball to build the attack. We continued to create chances and seven minutes into the second half Carley Noretto (Sophomore, #9) beat a defender on top of the eighteen and hit a beautiful shot past the keeper for the first goal of the second half.

The chances for goals didn’t stop there and Alyssa Feller (Senior, #11) found the back of the net 27 minutes into the second half off of a free kick by Addie Steed (Senior, #10) where Alyssa won the ball off a bounce and pushed it past the keeper.

We finished the half strong and Abby Jones (Sophomore, #14) cleaned up the ball after it was saved by the keeper off of a corner for our fourth goal of the game.

Overall, it was a great overall effort by the team. We have a special group of girls who are on a mission to make some noise this year.
