Dover girls beat Wooster 1-0
The Dover girls soccer team defeated Wooster Monday. Here’s the report from Dover Coach James Kline.
Wooster 0 – Dover 1
Location: Dover
Kickoff: October 10, 7:00 PM
Last night, after a weeklong break from games we played the Wooster Generals. With three games this week and playoffs looming we knew we needed to start the week off right with a win. The girls met the challenge and met it with one of their best performances to date. The score might not reflect that, but it was obvious from the start of our warm-up to the final buzzer, the girls were ready to play.
During the first half, we possessed the ball nicely. Showed that we could switch the point of attack by looking to being dangerous through the outside and down the middle of the field. It all connected after earning a corner kick after a nice save by the Generals keeper. Sophia Bielski played a dangerous corner that was knocked around a few times before Belen Bravo-Angel settled the ball and softly touched it to Carley Noretto who turned it and put a shot past the Wooster goalkeeper for the first goal of the game. Once again, we continued to play well and create more chances, but couldn’t find another goal before half.
Going into half 1-0 has been a familiar scenario for us, but this time, we were able to make it through the first ten minutes without giving up a goal. Wooster was down to 12 players and it seemed that our style of play was really starting to wear on them. The second half was similar to the first with us being able to have a majority of the possession and scoring opportunities. However, we were unable to find another goal, but due to great defensive performances from Olivia Noretto, Ava Zobel, Addie Steed, Elizabeth Lane, and Addie Martin we were able to shut the Generals out. Addie Martin finished with 5 saves and this gives the team and defense their seventh shutout of the season.
This win brings our record to 10-4-1 with two more games before playoffs. We travel to Louisville tomorrow and end the season on Saturday against New Philadelphia at Crater Stadium at 7:00PM for our Kick-for-a-Cure fundraiser.
