Dover man pleads not guilty in child sex abuse case

| October 10, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 10, 2024) – Court proceedings are continuing in the case against the Dover man accused of raping a six-year-old.

27-year-old Brandon Lynch appeared in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court by video from the jail Wednesday for his arraignment before Common Pleas Court Judge Elizabeth Thomakos.

“The indictment in this case is for two counts rape, felonies of the first degree; two counts gross sexual imposition, felonies of the third degree; and one count illegal use of a minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material or performance, a felony of the second degree.”

Lynch remains jailed on the quarter-million dollar bond set during his initial appearance in New Philadelphia Municipal Court. Assistant Prosecutor Bob Urban asked for the extension (citing the potential danger to the public and the seriousness of the alleged offenses).

“Primarily due to two reasons: the protection of the community due to the alleged victim’s age of six, and also hand in hand with that, the very serious nature of the crimes, which carry a potential life sentence.”

There will be a pre-trial conference on October 28th to schedule future court dates.

Lynch’s public defender intends to request his release on pretrial supervision once he has somewhere lined up to stay.
