Dover Mayor: Commercial development coming to former GE property

| October 8, 2025

DOVER – City officials are anticipating some more commercial development along South Wooster Avenue after the sale of a portion of the former General Electric property.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe says the development group MTTJ Properties has purchased just over three acres of land fronting South Wooster Avenue across from Speedway. He says the group is planning to add commercial buildings, which could include retail, offices or restaurants.

“I think it’s a good thing for the community… to put that land back to productive use and add  some additional amenities for our residents,” Gunnoe said, noting the property has been vacant since 2017 or 2018.

Gunnoe says GE still owns the rest of the 17-acre property but would like to sell it off in phases. Gunnoe says there are interested potential buyers.

The GE Lighting factory closed in 2017. It had employed nearly 200 people in its heyday but had dwindled down to a skeleton crew in its final few years. The factory was torn down a few years ago.
