Dover receives $1.8 million for sewer upgrades

| April 10, 2026

DOVER – The city is the recipient of a $1.8 million grant for water infrastructure improvements to accommodate future growth on the city’s north side. The money comes from a U.S. Department of Commerce program aimed at helping create jobs and expand businesses. Dover Mayor Shane Gunnoe says the funds will be used to replace a pump station and enlarge the sewer capacity in that area.

Gunnoe says enlarging the sewer capacity is needed as new customers are added to a sewer system that was installed in the 1970s.

Future plans for north Dover include a 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, over 100 new homes, an ALDI grocery store, a Taco Bell and more.

The city has separately received $1.2 million in federal and state grants, giving Dover about $3 million from outside sources to cover most of the $3.6 million project cost. Gunnoe says construction will likely start before the end of the year.

This grant is separate from a $2 million federal grant the city hopes to receive next year. That would be used to extend sanitary sewer service to residents north of Dover in the Columbia neighborhood.
