Dover seeking state, federal funds for sewer upgrade

| January 6, 2026

DOVER – The city is in line to receive $3.5 million in grants for future projects, and officials are hoping for a few million more.

The approved grants mainly cover infrastructure work around the incoming Schaeffler manufacturing plant on the north side and park improvements.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe says he is also anticipating a $600,000 federal grant after a U.S. House vote this week. That would help fund a $3.3 million sewer upgrade to accommodate future growth on the city’s north side. Gunnoe says the Angel Drive Pump Station Project would enlarge the pump station and add an additional sewer line to expand the capacity of the sewer system.

Gunnoe says the city has already received a $600,000 state grant for the project and he’s optimistic state and federal sources will add about $1.8 million more. That would leave the city responsible for about 10 percent of the total cost.

The project comes as city officials anticipate significant growth on the north side of Dover. Projects in the works include the 300-thousand-square-foot Schaeffler manufacturing facility, an 80-home subdivision, a Taco Bell restaurant and possibly an Aldi grocery store.
