Dover teen promotes Down Syndrome awareness in New York City

| September 10, 2024

DOVER (WJER) (Sept. 10, 2024) – A local teen got to help put a face on Down Syndrome by having hers shown on Broadway.

Lylli Brant, 15, of Dover, was one of 500 people with the condition featured in a larger-than-life photo slideshow that played on the marquee in Times Square Saturday morning.  Her mother was grateful for the opportunity.

“Inclusion is my big thing, and I just want people with Down Syndrome of all ages and all types of different disabilities to be accepted,” said Alexis Bryant.

She admits she got a little choked up seeing her daughter appear on the big screen.

“It was awesome. She was really excited. We were excited. I was emotional.”

The presentation kicked off a Buddy Walk fundraiser in the Big Apple and streamed live on the National Down Syndrome Society’s Facebook page.

“It’s a one-mile walk. You join teams or you form a team, and everyone makes signs and yells and is happy.”

The Bryants also got to do some sightseeing during their visit, which Alexis says included stops at the wax museum, Summit observation tower, and other areas of interest.
