Dover’s move to new City Hall will allow safety forces expansion
DOVER – The city will expand its fire station and later its police station after other departments move into a new City Hall this spring.
Dover Mayor Shane Gunnoe says the work to convert the former First Federal Bank building on North Wooster Avenue into a new municipal center should be done in March with a grand opening to follow a few weeks later.
In the meantime, City Council has approved a $665,000 project to renovate the downtown fire station and expand it into the service and utility offices alongside the station on East Third Street.
Those departments will soon join the mayor’s office and Council chambers at the new City Hall about a block away at the corner of North Wooster Avenue and East Fourth Street.
The city also plans to expand the police station into the rest of City Hall once the mayor and other city employees move out.
Gunnoe says the projects are being funded by $3 million in bonds the city took out in 2024.

When other departments move to the new city hall, Dover’s fire department and police department will expand into the vacated spaces here on East 3rd Street.
