Dover’s new Little Free Library served with ice cream

| May 20, 2022

DOVER (WJER) (May 20, 2022) – The Dover Public Library will dedicate its latest Little Free Library Sunday at Softies on Wooster Avenue. Library Director Jim Gill says it’s their third one – there’s one at the library and one at Dover City Park – with four more planned.

“Little Free Libraries are those little wooden boxes. Each one different. Each one colorful. Each one customized,” Gill said. “The idea of a Little Free Library is to take a book and leave a book. It’s a book-sharing capsule, open 24-7.”

The dedication starts at 2 p.m. Sunday with free ice cream cones for kids.

The Little Free Library at Softies was donated by Rabbi John Spitzer of Temple Israel in Canton.

“This is a synagogue that had a real heart for the Guatemalan community,” Gill said. “It’s helping us out by stocking the Little Free Libraries.”

The box will be stocked with books in English and Spanish, mostly geared toward children, but readers of any age can exchange reading material at the Little Free Libraries.
