Downtown Dennison evacuated for gas leak
DENNISON (WJER) (Sept. 10, 2024) – Firefighters say work continues to repair a major gas leak downtown.
Chief Dave McConnell says crews working in the street as part of the downtown revitalization project cut through an 8” main gas line in front of Village Hall just after 8:30 a.m.
“It was actively spewing gas so we had to evacuate like a five-to-six block radius, and both schools and the administrative office, the bank. Everything in the downtown area has been evacuated,” McConnell said.
McConnell says the leak is somewhat contained and he’s still waiting on the OK from the gas company to start letting people back in, but it could be a while.
McConnell says a representative from Enbridge Gas called this an “extensive dig.”
WJER News will continue to follow the situation.
