Driver falls asleep, box truck tips over on I-77 ramp at Bolivar

| February 4, 2025

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Feb. 4, 2025) – The State Highway Patrol says an Akron man and his passenger suffered just minor injuries when he fell asleep and his box truck tipped over on the I-77 north exit ramp at Bolivar.

The crash occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday and had the ramp closed for about 90 minutes.

Trooper Matthew Clapper says the 21-year-old Akron man driving the box truck told them his shift Monday started at 5:30 a.m. and he had been awake approximately 12 hours prior to the crash.

Clapper says the accident damaged about 100-200 feet of guardrail.

The driver was cited for failure to control.
