Driver in critical condition after Monday morning crash in Uhrichsville

UHRICHSVILLE – A car crash victim was in critical condition Monday afternoon after he was flown to Akron City Hospital following a collision in Uhrichsville that morning.
State Highway Patrol Sgt. Jennifer Makris described the man’s injuries as serious but did not immediately have more details on his age or hometown.
The crash happened on Newport Road near Novellis at about 6:45 a.m. when a 2007 Nissan Xterra SUV went left of center and collided with a 2019 Ford F-250 pickup truck.
Makris says the driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt. Firefighters had to rip off the door to remove him from the vehicle. She did not know why the vehicle went left of center.
The driver of the Ford F-250 had non life-threatening injuries. A relative transported that person to the hospital.
Makris says the department has not issued any citations as the driver of the Nissan is undergoing medical treatment.
She says both vehicles were badly damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
