NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 30, 2025) – A driver involved in a pursuit after allegedly getting clocked speeding at 92 miles per hour on state Route 39 in Warren Township Friday apparently told deputies he didn’t stop for them because he was late for a funeral.

This happened around 3 p.m.

Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s call records show the suspect’s eastbound Jeep was observed passing other vehicles over double-yellow lines, almost hitting one.

He was eventually stopped in Carroll County and cited for speed and reckless operation.

The driver was then picked up by his father – the registered owner of the Jeep.

The driver is scheduled to appear in New Philadelphia Municipal Court on July 10th.

A report is also being sent to the prosecutor to consider filing failure to comply charges.
