Early voting begins for August 2 primary

| July 6, 2022

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 6, 2022) – The Tuscarawas County Board of Elections office is welcoming early voters for the August 2nd primary starting today.

Board Director Gail Garbrandt says they will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for the first three weeks of early voting, with expanded hours after that leading up to election day.

There are no issues appearing locally on the August ballot.

Garbrandt says the only contested races for both Democrats and Republicans in Tuscarawas County are for state central committeeman in the 31st District.

Those races for both parties have three candidates.

“In the Democratic primary, there’s no one from Tuscarawas County running. In the Republican primary, Douglas Wills is running for state central committeeman. He currently holds that position, so he’s running for re-election,” said Garbrandt.

For Republicans, 51st District State Representative Brett Hillyer and 31st Ohio Senate District candidate Al Landis are unopposed on the ballot.

No Democrats entered either of those races.

Garbrandt reminds voters to bring identification.
