Early voting begins for issues-only spring primary

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (April 11, 2025) – Early voting for the May 6th primary election is underway.
Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Director Brian Swartzwelder says it began Tuesday with about a dozen or so early voters casting ballots to start with that morning.
All precincts have something to vote on because of State Issue 2, which would allow Ohio to issue up to $2.5 billion in bonds for public infrastructure projects.
Voters are also deciding whether to fund new buildings in the New Philadelphia School District and new athletic and band facilities in Strasburg.
Swartzwelder says this is an issues-only ballot; voters can’t get separate Democratic or Republican ballots since there are no contested races in May.
Early voting takes place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at the courthouse through April 25th, with expanded hours after that.
