Election Coverage: Voters reject Phila, Strasburg school issues

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 6, 2025) – Voters in two Tuscarawas County school districts have rejected multi-million-dollar ballot issues that would have funded new facilities.
In New Philadelphia, Issue 10, the combined $72-million, 5.9-mill bond issue and 1-mill tax levy for new PreK-6 and middle-high school buildings was defeated with 59% of voters against the measure, according to unofficial results from the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections.
Issue 11, the Strasburg-Franklin School District’s $10-million, 3.6-mill bond issue to upgrade athletic and band practice facilities, also went down to defeat, with 74% of voters saying no.
Other issues that would have raised taxes elsewhere in the county also failed.
While much closer, voters turned down the fire and EMS additional levy in Dover Township and Parral, with 52% opposed.
In Mineral City, 72% of voters were against the village’s income tax increase.
However, various renewals – as usual – fared much better, with passage in Uhrichsville, Bolivar, Lawrence Township, Gnadenhutten, and other communities.
All results are unofficial until the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections meets later in the month for certification.
