Fashion Show featuring Mayan clothing

On Saturday, September 26, Yohayra Augustin, Francheska Agustin and Wendy Gomez will host a fashion show of indigenous Mayan clothing. During this event, several women will model the “trajes” (outfits) that come from the various regions of Guatemala that are represented in Tuscarawas County. By looking at the design and color of each outfirst, people can identify the town or village where this particular outfit is worn. An explanation will be given about the meaning of the figures woven into each piece of material and how the quality and fabric affects the cost of the pieces. The models will also highlight the newest styles. To close out the evening, the ladies will perform a cultural dance.

“Each village has a specific culture, clothing and language”, says Yohayra Augustin. “We are proud to showcase our culture and we invite everyone to join us for this special evening.”
