The event

Fort Laurens Museum is hosting a pioneer candle dipping class with the experts from Midwest Native Skills Institute on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

During the workshop, participants will learn the time-honored technique of candle dipping, dating back to ancient Egypt, and experiment with different dipping methods, colors and textures. Participants will also learn about other types of candle-making methods, such as metal and silicon molded candles, selection of correct wick diameters, calculating “sent loads” for candle wax and wax additives that give candles unique textures and designs.

The workshop will take place outside in the fort outline. Participants should check in at the front desk in the museum upon arrival.

The class is suitable for candle-makers of all skill sets. Limited spaces are available for the workshop. Preregistration is required by Sept. 18. Please call 330-874-3011, extension 205, to pre-register.

Participants must be 16 years old or older. Cost for the workshop is $20 per person and covers all necessary materials. The total cost for the class is due at the time of registry. The workshop is non-refundable. All proceeds will go towards the preservation and educational efforts of Fort Laurens.
