As part of the America 250 celebration, Dover Library will host Dana Martini from the Superior Clay Corporation to share the history of the clay industry in Tuscarawas County. On Thursday, June 25 at 6:30 PM, Martini will share the story of two families, four generations and four factories. He will show images and speak about the McClave and Martini families who owned and operated Buckeye Clay Company, Royal-Robinson Clay, H.K. Porter Clay and Evans Pipe-Superior Clay. He will address the impact that the clay industry has had on the local economy.

Dana Martini graduated from Claymont High School and studied architecture and mechanical engineering at Kent State University. Martini’s family has a long tradition of working in the clay industry. Both of his grandfathers worked in the industry as did his father and mother. Currently two of his children work at Superior Clay Corporation. Martini has been with the company for 47 years. He spent 20 years as a machinist-die maker as well as glaze technician. He was the manager of custom products and quality control for more than 25 years. He is currently a designer and works in the technical service department. Martini gives presentations to architects and masons about the manufacturing process and the company’s products.
