Rarely Visited Gettysburg Monuments the Focus of November Civil War Round Table
Coming Soon
The event
The Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table will meet on Thursday, November 13 at 6:30 PM in the Community Room of the Dover Public Library. The featured presenter will be Gary Jakubick, who will present: “Rarely Visited Gettysburg Monuments.” Jakubick’s presentation will feature the often overlooked monuments at Gettysburg and the military action and significance of the various sites.
Gary Jakubick is a Mansfield, Ohio native and holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Kent State University where one of his history professors sparked a more than 50-year fascination with America’s Civil War and Gettysburg in particular. His regular pilgrimage there began shortly after college graduation. Jakubick returned in 1976, introducing the battlefield and town to his wife while on their honeymoon. Soon it became a regular vacation destination. Before retiring, Jakubick sold and serviced consumer electronics retailers throughout the eastern U.S., planning his itineraries to include as many Civil War sites as possible – especially Gettysburg. After experiencing and learning the most visible parts of the town and battlefield, Jakubick began to look for the hidden history of the Gettysburg battlefield and began finding monuments that even some of the park guides rarely visited. It was then that Jakubick began his quest to photograph all 644 monuments. Jakubick found the last monument in the spring of 2025.
The mission of the Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table is to educate the community about the American Civil War, to preserve Civil War heritage and to remember those who struggled for their cause. For more information, please call the Dover Public Library at 330-343-6123.
