Reeves Museum Celebrates 50th Anniversary and America 250

The Reeves Museum invites the community to celebrate its 50th anniversary and America 250 with a full day of history, music, and family-friendly activities on Saturday, July 18. The celebration begins with a picnic event from noon to 4:00 p.m., followed by the museum’s annual Songs on the Steps concert at 6:30 p.m.

The festivities will begin at noon in the Carriage House with a welcome ceremony and the unveiling of the newly renovated Jeremiah Reeves and Reeves Manufacturing Company exhibit. Following the dedication, Chris Hart will present his informative and inspiring program, Oh Say Can’t You See, celebrating the history and meaning of the American flag.

Beginning at 1:00 p.m., the Jericho Big Band will perform on the museum lawn. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, along with a picnic lunch, and enjoy an afternoon of music on the museum grounds. Complimentary refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Dover Library, who will serve free hot dogs, along with Miller’s Creamery ice cream.

Complimentary guided tours of the Reeves Mansion will be offered at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m.

In honor of America 250, visitors are invited to explore two special exhibits. The Carriage House features Artifacts of Service, an exhibit highlighting military artifacts from the Dover Historical Society’s collection, including objects from the Civil War through the Vietnam War. The Reeves Mansion features Uniforms of Service, with military uniforms displayed throughout the home.

The celebration concludes with the museum’s popular Songs on the Steps beginning at 6:30 p.m. This cabaret-style concert features talented local musicians performing a variety of musical selections on the lawn of the Reeves Museum.

Admission to all activities is free, and everyone is welcome to attend as the Reeves Museum celebrates 50 years of preserving local history while honoring America’s 250th anniversary.
