Buckeye Career Center program moving to Dover High School

DOVER (WJER) (Jan. 31, 2025) – Two local school systems are teaming up to enhance the learning experience for students interested in a certain career path.
Buckeye Career Center recently announced that its Exercise Science and Sports Medicine Program will relocate to Dover High next school year. Superintendent Bob Alsept says the move will allow participating juniors and seniors to work directly with Dover’s student-athletes while also opening up potential internship and career connection opportunities.
“[Instructor] Jamey Harlan has done a really wonderful job, and Jamey is very involved with athletic training through the [Union Hospital] Healthplex and with our local schools. We’re hoping that we’ll be able to get more of our students involved in some work-based learning activities where they may help on the sidelines of athletic events at Dover or other schools.”
Dover Superintendent Karie McCrate says they look forward to hosting the program.
“[It] offers Dover students and those from other area schools with hands-on learning pathways and potential work-based experiences with local medical provider partners. This innovative partnership strengthens our commitment to meeting local workforce needs and providing students with high-quality academic experiences and cutting-edge career pathways.”
Buckeye has been accepting applications for the revamped program since mid-November. Alsept anticipates a spring open house at the high school for prospective students, possibly coinciding with the one at the career center.
“And we really feel like we’ll get a number of Dover students who will come into the Exercise Science program for half a day, take their academics with their Dover teachers, and we feel like we’ll get a boost in enrollment from that group.”
Transportation will be provided, and parking will also be available at both schools for participating students who prefer to drive themselves back and forth.
