DOVER (WJER) (Aug. 23, 2024) – State Route 39 is back open West of Dover after a 47-day closure.

ODOT District 11 spokesperson Lauren Borrell says it was only supposed to be 45 but Mother Nature didn’t cooperate.

“As with any road closure, we understand that it brings an inconvenience to those that are traveling this area, especially for folks that are residents of the area and this is a high tourist area as well, but ODOT genuinely appreciates the public’s patience with this project.”

The closure began July 8th so crews could lower the profile of the road near the Kimble landfill entrance to improve sight distance.

“This was a safety project, which was really important… We continue to strive to enhance and ensure the safety of all Ohio roads for travelers.”

Borrell says the contractor still has a bit more work to do next week but the road will remain open with flaggers maintaining traffic in both directions.
