Fiber company to pay deposit, fees for work in Strasburg

STRASBURG (Feb. 5, 2025) – Village leaders are taking some precautions before allowing Omni Fiber to expand its network to every home and business in town.
Village Administrator Mike Rosenberry has proposed a series of equipment fees on the company, which will also be required to pay a $5,000 deposit to cover any property damage.
“I had a really good discussion with Omni Fiber last week, and then at the end of last week over in New Phila they drilled through some water lines and gas lines, caused a lot of damage, so the just of my conversation with them was reviewing the ordinance and the permit.”
Omni will have to pay the village another $50 for a permit and a separate fee on each piece of equipment.
“Each cabinet about ground would be a $500 fee to install it. All the vaults that go in the ground are $200 apiece to install, and the flowerpots are $50 apiece. And as long as those remain in the right-of-ways, those are annual fees.”
Council on Tuesday approved the plan that Mayor Bruce Metzger shared with his counterparts from other local communities.
“We got some input on Omni Fiber through a couple of the mayors. We kind of reported what we’ve got going on with them, and I think New Phila is going to look into what Mike’s got with the annual fee of having their stuff here.”
Rosenberry says the company signed an agreement stating that the work in Strasburg won’t begin until April.
