Firefighters battle appliance fire, brush fires

| February 9, 2024

UHRICHSVILLE – County firefighters were busy midday Friday putting out an appliance fire in the Uhrichsville area and a brush fire in Stone Creek.

Uhrichsville Fire Chief Judd Edwards says no one was hurt at the Crooked Creek Road Southeast residence where a fire broke out, apparently originating from a dryer.

He says fire damage was limited mostly to the laundry room, but smoke damage and water damage were elsewhere.

Rush Township, Dennison, Warwick, and Arrowhead Joint Fire District along with sheriff’s deputies joined Uhrichsville in responding to the appliance fire. The Red Cross and the occupants’ insurance company are helping them find temporary housing while repairs are made.

Around the same time, Sugarcreek firefighters were responding to a one-acre brush fire off Rocky Ridge Road Southwest in Stonecreek. No one was hurt.

There have been several brush fires reported in the area in the past couple of days.

Sugarcreek Fire Capt. Austin Weaver says that’s not typical this time of year. However dry conditions, warm temperatures, and a breeze makes them more likely.
