Firefighters respond to farmhouse for attic fire two times

| May 21, 2024

BOLIVAR (WJER) (May 21, 2024) – Firefighters were sent to a mostly vacant farmhouse used for storage twice within about six hours, where efforts to reach the fire source caused the most damage.

Chief Shawn Lynch says they first responded to this house in the 11000 block of Welton Rd NE a little after 8 p.m. Monday for smoke pushing out of the eaves of the attic.

He says crews had to pull apart the ceiling in rooms under the attic to gain access to the fire.

Lynch believes it was a ceiling fan and electrical problem that caught the attic space on fire.

Firefighters were on scene for about 90 minutes during that first response.

However, firefighters had to return to the farmhouse shortly after 2 a.m. this morning. Lynch says some embers likely rekindled insulation in the attic that firefighters didn’t wet down enough during the initial response. They had that taken care of in about a half hour.

Lynch says fire damage was contained to that attic space, but he didn’t have a damage estimate.

He says the homeowner at that residence lives in a different part of the property.

Mineral City, Strasburg, and Dover departments also assisted.
