Firefighters respond to Memorial Day machine fire at Meteor Sealing

DOVER (WJER) (May 28, 2025) – Dover firefighters have been saying it could be a few days before normal operations resume at Meteor Sealing Systems on South Tuscarawas Avenue following a machine fire Monday.
Fire Lt. Brian Stewart says they were called shortly after 3:30 p.m. and started searching for the fire in near-zero visibility in the smoke-filled building.
They would learn the building’s sprinkler system had extinguished the fire and it took about 45 minutes to ventilate the smoke.
Firefighters helped eight employees out of the building as it was a holiday with minimal staffing and not a production day. One person was checked out at the scene for smoke inhalation but not hospitalized.
Stewart says plant officials and engineers were working to determine what caused the rubber injection mold press machine to malfunction as well as a damage estimate.
Firefighters from New Philadelphia, Strasburg, and Sugarcreek departments also responded Monday along with a crew from Smith Ambulance.
