Firefighters respond to simultaneous emergencies in Mill Township
DENNISON (WJER) (Feb. 16. 2024) – The village’s fire chief is praising the crew members who handled back-to-back emergencies in Mill Township early Friday morning.
Dave McConnell says they had to divide and conquer after getting called out for a utility room fire at one home and a serious medical issue at another within a few minutes of each other.
“That’s kind of unusual to get two serious emergencies that quickly together and we had them within three minutes and we handled everything, for everything taken care of, so I was very proud of everybody and appreciated everybody else’s assistance, our mutual aid partners.”
The fire was at a home on state Route 800 whose occupants and their pets made it out unharmed.
“We’re not exactly sure what caused it but we’re pretty sure it was accidental. We had to rule it undetermined with damage of $8,000 to the structure and $2,000 to the contents.”
Personnel from Uhrichsville, Warwick Township, and Smith Ambulance assisted there while another team from Dennison and the ambulance company responded to the medical situation on Moravian Trail Road. A record of the call from the sheriff’s office says the patient was deceased when first responders arrived but no foul play is suspected.
