Lithium-ion batteries are in laptops, tablets, cellphones, scooters and much more.
New Philadelphia Fire Department Captain Jim Sholtz says as those items have become more common over the years, house fires have been developing and spreading much quicker.
Sholtz says potential danger signs can include those electronic devices no longer holding a charge and batteries that have started to swell in size.
He advises never leaving those devices in a car in direct sunlight and charging them with the original cord they came with.
And Sholtz says those items shouldn’t be thrown away in the garbage. Dispose of them at locations with designated battery recycle bins, such as Lowe’s.
